The Senate rejected the Udall amendment which would have stripped the detainee provisions entirely as well as an amendment proposed by Sen. Feinstein that would have stated the law did not authorize the military to detain American citizens. The Senate then went on to pass the bill 93-7. A federal district court in California just ruled that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional! Woohoo!

Of course, the decision will be appealed, and the judge granted a stay to bar any new marriages while the appeals are still pending, so the fight isn't anywhere near over yet. But still: woohoo!
